Simplicity 1738 - a knit jacket

Hi!

My name is Summer. And I'm going to be keeping track of my sewing projects here. Welcome!

For the past few years, I went about my life without sewing. I am an average size petite, so buying clothes was not a problem. I bought a lot of Banana Republic, Ann Taylor, Forever 21, Donna Karan, and a few other brands. I was happy enough with my wardrobe, until late last year, when I started thinking about making my own clothes again. It seems that my style and colors come in waves in RTW. There are some seasons when I see a lot of what I want, but there are more seasons when there's nothing that I want in the stores, at all.

I clean out my wardrobe regularly. That, paired with not seeing anything I wanted to buy in the stores, meant that my wardrobe was shrinking fast! I kept hoping I'd see things I wanted, but it wasn't happening, so I finally decided to just jump in and start sewing again.

As my very first sewing project back, I chose something easy, but stylish. And I chose a cheap pattern from the 97 cents Sew Simple line from Simplicity.

I saw this pattern made up on some sewing blogs and was over the moon in love with it! I had to have one to dress up my jeans outfits. The pattern is now OOP, but you can still get it at some Walmart stores. Now, how absolutely D-I-V-I-N-E is this???!!!

You can also still get it in the regular line--Simplicity 2150. It's the red one in the pic below:

I love vibrant colors and went hunting for a bright green knit. I found it at a brick and mortar here.

And then I started my project! I jumped in and just sewed!
The pattern is drafted well, but I did not like the slight gathers at the sleeve cap. I sewed mine without them by using the sleeve from another Sew Simple pattern for a knit jacket. It went together perfectly with this. I also raised the armhole a little--I don't have big arms.

I am petite, so I did a slight petite adjustment to raise the waist.

Other than that, I don't have much to say about this pattern or sewing it. It was super easy to sew, even for someone who hasn't sewn in years, like me.

My new jacket adds a lot of chic, a pop of color, and a lot of happy to my usually blah and run of the mill looking jeans outfits. I'm really glad I made this! Sorry about the floor pic--I'll switch it out with a pic of me wearing the jacket when I have time to take one.

I am definitely making more, but I'll get back to it after I sew a few other styles.

If you somehow found my teeny tiny little blog, I'm shocked, but glad that you did. If you like seeing how patterns turn out, then definitely come back because I am loving sewing again. I'm all in! And that means I'll be sewing a lot!

And I'll be keeping track of what I make right here.

Do you sew a lot? Drop me a line to let me know, and leave your blog addy. I love reading blogs and seeing what others make, so I will definitely come visit.
