I finally made something trendy for myself. This is huge because I'm not a trendy dresser. More classic than anything else. When I tried it on, I absolutely loved the way it looked.
I put side seam pockets in the pants because I love pockets!
I got my inspiration for this from Simplicity 9756, which is in the current catalog. Look at how pretty it is!
The only reason I didn't get the pattern is because it starts at a size 10, which it too big for me. The style is already very loose fitting and on me, I knew it would make me look sloppy. I like working with size 6 or 8 patterns. Size 10 is just too big.
So I dug into my pattern stash and came up with Butterick 6354 for the shirt. As you can see, it's not overly loose fitting. Anything that's too loose fitting would just look sloppy on me. And the length is perfect. Since junior petite patterns are drafted for those who are 5'1" or shorter, I never have to worry about the length on anything I sew with a junior petite pattern. I love the shirt I ended up with, but I have noticed that with junior petite patterns, the shoulders are always too broad for me. It was like that for this pattern, too, so I took them in.
For the pants, I used my TNT, M2546. I've sewn a whole bunch of pants with this pattern and love them all. I was very happy to add another one to my wardrobe:
What did give me trouble is the fabric that I used. It's sort of like a fortuny, but not as pronounced. I interfaced the back neck facing and when I tried to sew it on, I ended up with crumpling because the facing was too small. I ditched it and finished the back neck with a bias strip. Worked perfectly. But I didn't like that I had to do that. Not the pattern's fault. Definitely the fabric that I used.
That's all I have for now, but stay tuned because I sewed a lot of classic basics that I'll be sharing soon.
Be well, and stay safe out there!
