My general Assessment of Vintage Junior Petite Sewing Patterns that I've Sewn

Simplicity 5158. The back neck was too high, and the shoulders too wide, but everything else fit well. I didn't have to shorten anything. I love where the waist and hip fell and the flare was perfect for my petite self. Not too narrow, not too full. And the neckline was not too low. Make a muslin for the fit of the back.

Simplicity 6620. I don't know what it is about this pattern, but I made the jacket a few times and each one was just a little off on me. I also didn't like the sleeve cuffs because they don't have an opening. Easy to fix, but it's something I really didn't like. The collar is also a little too big for my taste. I made the pants, and they fit me perfectly! I won't be sewing the jacket again for myself, but I'll definitely be making the pants again!

I like knit tank dresses and just made this last week. What a disappointment it was. I should have made a muslin, but didn't. The shoulders were too broad, and the neckline was too low. But I didn't have to shorten the waist or the hip length. As a dress, it was unusable for me, so I cut off the top, turned over a casing for an elastic waist and turned it into a skirt. Love my skirt!

I used a floral print to make a trendy matching top and pants set with this pattern. The pants fit perfectly, but the top was a little too wide in the back, so I made them narrower. I made them a little too narrow. Ugh! The neckline also was a little too high, and the collar was much too big for my taste. The top length was perfect for petite me. In the end, I didn't like the too narrow back, and definitely didn't like the print that I used because it was too loud. The set is gone.

I made the long jumpsuit a while ago and it fit me perfectly! I don't have it anymore because I made it in a color that looks awful on me. Buy I do love the pattern and will make it again!

I've only made the cardi and I do like it. I've made it several times and wear each one pretty often.

I made the shorts recently and love them! I'm definitely making more!

My best wrap dress pattern is Vogue 8379. It fits me perfectly, but I wanted to see how a JP pattern would fit, so I sewed this. It was a disappointment. The shoulders were too wide, the back neck too high, and the front neckline was a little too low.

The shoulders were too wide, but everything else was perfect! I made the cowl top with a beige cable knit last year, and I'll be wearing it again this year on cool days.

I've only sewn the straight legged pants from this pattern and I love them so much that I've sewn several.

What I love about junior petite patterns is that lengthwise, I don't have to make any adjustments. I love that the pants fit me perfectly, but I don't like the issues I have with the shoulders and neck on dress and top junior petite patterns. I also don't like that the collars are drafted for styles from back then, too big for my modern taste. Other than that, I do like that junior petite patterns are an option. And I definitely love the pants patterns! I'm finding that I don't have to make muslins for the pants because so far, the ones I've sewn have all fit me perfectly right out of the envelope! Grateful for that!

See you next time!
