Know Me 2078 - Vintage 40s style nautical top

Whether it's trending or not, I love the nautical look!

When I saw this Know Me 2078, I immediately thought of nautical styles from the 40s, and knew I would be making it. I have several Know Me patterns, but this is the first one I've sewn, and I love it! I'll definitely be sewing the others that I have.

It took me long enough, but I finally sewed it, and am over the moon with it!

The pattern is a good one. All the pieces fit together perfectly, and even better than that is that I didn't have to make any fitting adjustments to it.

What I did do differently is that I didn't interface the facings. My thinking is that with the collar interfaced and the facings, too, it would have been too thick.  The collar stabilized the neckline, so interfacing the facings was unnecessary. It turned out fine.

Also, I sewed it as a sleeveless top. Even that didn't take much to finish. I just turned the armhole edge twice and stitched, and it was done. That's it!

I wore it the other day and paired it with a white maxi skirt from my closet that I made a while ago: I love the look and can't wait to wear it again! I styled it with an anchor brooch right below where the collar ends meet. It was perfect!

Here's the pattern I used for the skirt. I made it a while ago, but I do remember that it was easy to sew and it's definitely easy to wear and style:

I had leftover fabric from the top, and used it to make a sarong skirt. I'm not sure I'll ever wear it because it looks a little costume-y, but I made it anyway just to see how the top would look with a sarong.

Here's the pattern. It only took me around an hour to sew the sarong. The pattern is for wovens, but since I used a knit, I didn't sew the darts. When I wear it, I pull it tight to fit so the darts ended up being unnecessary.

I might not wear the sarong with the top, but I'll definitely wear it with other tops, like a white button down, or a white tank, etc. I'm happy with the sarong, but just not sure I'll wear it with the matching nautical top.

My Pink Collection isn't finished, yet, but I'm already wearing the pieces. I really need to finish it and will be working on the sleeveless top next. I'm not sure, but I might nix the dress and call it a day on this collection when the top is finished:

After the Pink Collection is done, I'll be moving on to a few more coral pieces.

Be back soon.

Be well,

Summer
